We live near the Arboretum area of Northwest Austin, Texas. Pick the directions below based on where you are coming from:
Take I35 North through Austin, exit on US 183 North (Research Boulevard, up a ramp to the left over I35, and continue "North" on 183 for about 4 miles to the exit for Loop 360, Capital of Texas Highway.
Take a left on Loop 360 (note that the left TWO lanes both turn onto 360). At the second traffic light after the 183 intersection, take a right on Bluffstone Drive.
Continue with LOCAL DIRECTIONS below.Heading south on I35, take exit 250B onto the toll road 45 West and 1 South. It is the last exit in Round Rock (11 miles to go to our house). In about a mile the toll road splits - exit on Loop 1 South. Go through the 75 cent toll plaza (If you have a North Texas "Toll Tag" or a Houston "EZ Tag" you get the discounted "TxTag" price; or you can pay by mail at a higher rate). Continue South on Loop 1, also called MoPac expressway. In about 8 miles, after Duval Road and Braker Lane, exit on Capital of Texas Highway, Loop 360, which is primarily labeled as "To Highway 183 North."
At the top of the exit ramp, turn Right (the only direction) onto the road that becomes route 360, Capital of Texas Highway. In one mile, about 3 lights, you will cross over US 183, Research Boulevard. Continue for another mile on 360 to the second traffic light past 183 and take a right on Bluffstone Drive. Continue with LOCAL DIRECTIONS below.
The airport is on the Southeast side of Austin, we live on the Northwest. Highway 71 (from Houston) is the road in front of the airport - take a left towards Austin. Soon you will see an exit to the right "to 183 North." After about a mile, you will exit to the right again to actually get on Highway 183 North, which wanders up the east side of Austin, then across the North side. Along the way, there is an intersection with highway 290 - the other major route from Houston. Continue across the North side of Austin on Highway 183 "North" (here also called Research Boulevard) for about 4 miles after you cross I35, to the exit for Loop 360. Capital of Texas Highway.
Take a left on Loop 360 (note that the left TWO lanes both turn onto 360). At the second traffic light after the 183 intersection, take a right on Bluffstone Drive.
Continue with LOCAL DIRECTIONS below.Generally we do not recommend this route, because it is slightly longer than the alternatives and has at least 14 traffic lights from south Austin. But if you find yourself there...
Turn left (west) on Bluffstone Drive. It is not well labeled, but has a traffic light, two lights after Lakewood, one light after you could have turned left on Spicewood Springs Road. If you get to Great Hills Trail or Highway 183, you have gone too far. The turn you are looking for is the same light where you could turn right up the hill on Spicewood Springs Road. (Spicewood Springs does not go straight across the highway...) Then continue with the LOCAL DIRECTIONS below.
MoPac, along the Missouri-Pacific railroad tracks, is the preferred auto route north through Austin. If you are coming North on I35, the directions above to stay on I35 through town are fine, but the one-way streets have been changed so you can now go west on Cesar Chavez (formerly known as 1st Street) to get to MoPac - Loop 1 North. If you are heading south when you leave our house, try MoPac south to Cesar Chavez, then follow it east to I35.
If traffic on MoPac is moving fast, you may want to continue North all the way to Highway 183, exit to the North, and exit from the ramp, onto Loop 360, just before you get on 183. Then follow the directions for I35 to 183 to 360, and local directions.
Normally traffic is not moving that great in Austin, so exit MoPac onto Anderson Lane and Spicewood Springs. At the light, turn left onto Spicewood Springs (a right turn would be onto Anderson Lane), and continue through the somewhat residential area for a couple miles. Ultimately you will come down a steep hill, and see the traffic light at Loop 360. Continue straight across 360 onto Bluffstone and follow the LOCAL DIRECTIONS right here.
Turn west off of 360 onto Bluffstone Drive, one light south of Great Hills Trail and two lights north of Lakewood. (Turning East instead of West at Bluffstone would take you up the very obvious hill on Spicewood Springs Road)
Cross the bridge on Bluffstone, and take the second right (only about 0.1 miles) onto Bluegrass Drive, just before Bluffstone ends. Continue up a steep then windy road for about 0.5 miles, to the second street on the right, which is Puccoon Cove. (The turn is just after the second speed bump in Bluegrass Drive).
Turn right onto Puccoon Cove. Our house is at the "ten o'clock" position, number 5702, nestled behind the garage, with the house number over the garage door.
