Work by others

listed at the Plesums Woodworking Site

I have some friends (no snickers, please) who are very talented woodworkers. Some are even extraordinary woodworkers. Some are "in the business" but others, for whatever reason, haven't taken the steps to sell their work.

A good friend recently lamented that he had made all the furniture his family wanted, and even some spares. He has the time, tools, and talent, and was looking for a project. This led to the idea that his work, and the work of others that I admire like him, could be listed here. If you are interested in a piece, the price, delivery, and guarantee are between you and the furnituremaker...I will not be involved in the sale or guarantee the results, other than possibly doing the bookkeeping for sales tax, etc., as a favor for my friends.

Of course, I hope you will also look at my work, while you are here, and might want to look at some of the architectural components I make for wine cellars by Grandeur Cellars.

Ed Halter

Picture of Ed Halter

Ed began his training in woodworking in the seventh through twelfth grade in Wichita Falls, Texas. After graduating, and a short stint in the Marine Corps Reserve on active duty, he earned his Mechanical Engineering degree from UT Austin in 1963.

After graduation, Ed was hired by IBM in Lexington, KY. He and his wife Pat bought their first house which, of course, needed furniture. Ed wanted to build all the furniture for their home. Having little money and only a hand saw and screwdriver, the first project was a a pair of speakers made out of "chip board," stained walnut (Pat was not impressed). But he began to accumulate woodworking tools, and take on more projects with better materials. Probably seventy-five percent of the furniture in their home was made by him. Today, he has a well-equipped shop, with the necessary tools and over 50 years experience to build almost any wood or metal project. Since his retirement from IBM in 1993, he has been able to focus on his woodworking.

Some of the home projects he has done include: a roll top desk, four secretary desks (for Pat and each of his 3 sons), a sofa and chair set, a glider rocker, a dining room set with table, 8 chairs, and the china cabinet, a breakfast table with 6 chairs and the light fixture that hangs over it, a walnut and oak desk, a solid walnut secretary desk-bookcase (with hidden compartments), and many small items like jewelry boxes, used as gifts. He is especially proud of his cedar strip canoe (truly a work of art) the dozen rocking chairs for himself and his sons's families.

Others?

If you know of other woodworkers in the central Texas area who do exceptional quality work and do not have their own business or web site, who might like to occasionally sell one of their projects, have them contact Charlie Plesums
